There’s always another lesson to be learned. Just not when Jimmy is in the class…
Each week Rochelle Wisoff-Fields posts a pic to write a 100 word story about.
This week the humor sucks.
Pipeline
Today, students, we’re studying an important subject.
Turn the picture 90° clockwise.
Why, Jimmy? Because I said so.
That top flat lighter area is: Canada.
Jimmy, I don’t care what your parents think about how Canadians tip.
Back to the picture. The bottom is the US.
No, Jimmy, the entire US is not rocky.
The curved plastic is the pipeline that moves oil from Canada to the US.
Yes, Jimmy? Why is everything so dry-looking?
Good question! Because when you suck all the oil out of the earth, this is what the world looks like.
No, Jimmy, I did not say that Canadians suck.
Randy Mazie
Hilarious and clever too! Sitting on a commuter train and laughing out loud. So fun to drop by and find this!
Nothing like computing while commuting.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Randy
Clever use of the pipeline image. Very funny, Randy. So, do Canadians not tip?
My tips, I mean, lips, are sealed!
😉
Randy
I will have you know that we DO tip! Hmph!
Well, it’s okay if you don’t. I’m just really curious. I know these things vary from place to place. Thanks for letting me know, Dale!
I have heard that some areas are considered cheap tippers though…
Here it’s about 15-20%. It can get a little steep sometimes, but I feel good about tipping if I’m happy with the service.
Same thing here. You suck, it will show in my amount!
I used to be a waitress. If the service is good I’m a great tipper. If not…well…I make the punishment fit the crime. 😉
I’ll pass these insights on to Jimmy, folks, and ask that he bring a note back from his parents indicating that they’ve understood the nature of their stereotyping, the effects of stereotyping on the blog environment, and the importance of and nuances regarding correct tipping which should also include references to canoe and Tyler, too.
Randy
PS Sorry for any unintended border skirmishes ignited by references to Canadians’ tipping characteristics.
Brilliant use of the photo… And the use of pipelines does suck terribly… Loved the dialogue even if there was some jabbing of us friendly (remember?) Canadians… 😉
Always considered Canadians the ultimate in friendliness, integrity, and liberalism. Especially today with a new government in place. Hurrah!
Uh-oh. Now, I hope I haven’t touched off another controversy.
You know me – i am anything but controversial. Ha.
Randy
I am beyond pleased with our new government, so no controversy with me…then again, I’m from Eastern Canada; those from the west are a tad less pleased
I know some from Western Canada who are very pleased, too. I do remember though tales and pictures about Papa Trudeau who showed the West the finger…
You’re right! We tip miserably. We’re conservatives but not all is lost! Now we’re liberals. 🙂 O happy day for Justin! Yea, the pipeline sucks. 😦
Lily
I’m at a loss for words.
Really? You Canadians tip miserably?
Please refer to the top on this blog whre Amy, dae and rochelle have entuired into an interesting discourse on the merits of tipping.
Randy
Good one. The XL Pipeline I assume. 🙂
anything that excoriates the earth to human detriment.
Well done! Great take on the prompt regarding the pipeline! 🙂
Thank you.
I was banging my pipe (lines).
Randy
arty arty arty… 🙂 good one…
😉
Great voices, and a very clever approach to the picture’s elements. Good story.
I am nothing if not clever.
Was that a clever response?
Randy
I fracking love this piece.
Tracey
I fracking love your comment.
Fracking right.
Randy
Great take on the prompt. 🙂
there was a prompt?
Oh, that pipeline! We hear about it a lot, don’t we?
what pipeline?
some truth behind the humor. nicely played out. 🙂
That’s me – a purveyor of some truth.
Dear Randy,
How can I top Tracey’s comment? I can’t so I’ll defer to her. Good story. But is it good for the environment (or the Jews?)
Shalom,
Rochelle
What’s good for the environment is good for the Jews – 😉 – Canadians, Mexicans, republicans, socialists, LBGTs, senior citizens, left-handed industrialists, rhesus monkeys, space cadets, starry-eyed opticians, ad infinitives, detritus, and poly misogamists.
Thanks for commenting – or not.
Randy
It sounds like Jimmy’s one of “those” students 🙂
😉
(chuckling…) Love this. >
me, too.
Loved it, Randy, and enjoyed the retorts from the Canadians too. Who knew they were so thin skinned about their tipping?
Jimmy sounds like he will go far… If he just can find where north is.
Me, too.
Perfect. I’m still chuckling about Jimmy. North American tipping ritual is an endless source of wonder to me, and yeah, the pipeline…
tipping and pipelines… interesting analogy.
letting money flow through….
This is one patient teacher. I don’t see there’s any hope for Jimmy though. Beautifully told.
There’s always hope.
Jimmy thinks that you’re too narrow minded and you need to be more open to learning, like his parent’s perceptions about the world.
Thanks,
Randy
Well, this is a wild and crazy one! And I would never say Canadians suck … Well, maybe William Shatner.
Isn’t he from Boston? Or, somewhere in space?
Randy
My son worked part-time in restaurants. He’s now a generous tipper. Good story Randy. I love that kid and his questions. Good teacher who answers them. Lecturers wouldn’t last long with younger kids. I used to teach 1st and 2nd grade, so know that. Well done, Randy. 🙂 — Suzanne
Patience, patience, patience….
and then go home and look for another job.
My hat’s off to all our patient teachers worldwide!
Randy
Enjoyable read, as always.
Thank you, as always.
