We all have to answer to a higher authority. Some of us, though, are a little misguided about who that Higher Authority is… Each week Rochelle Wisoff-Fields posts a pic to write a 100 word story about. This week’s topic is seriously humorous or vice versa. But either way, you better get it right.
The Garden of Exxon
A booming voice from above…
Adman!
Looking up, a small voice replies,
Me? I’m Adam.
Madman?
No, A-D-A-M.
What-ever. You’ve been bad. Now leave the garden.
What have I done?
You’ve bitten the apple and have acquired knowledge.
I sorry, but… you’re in the wrong garden.
Ex-cuse me?
You’re in the garden of Exxon, not Eden.
Really?
Yes, and we already answer to a higher authority.
And who might that be?
Our shareholders.
Ha. Do not think that they do not ultimately answer to me. Out now, Shaman!
It’s Adam… and this is Exxon.
Hold your tongue before I mistakenly call you Lot.

You sure write interesting stories. Thanks! Nan 🙂
All credit goes top that Higher Authority. But in the meanwhile…Thanks. Randy.
I stand in awe of your inventiveness. And humour. Terrific Randy, really enjoyable.
Wow, that’s some praise. Thank you. Glad you liked it. It was divinely inspired, you know.
Randy
I never imagined otherwise. 😉
😉
Fun and clever, nice one!
Thanks.
Fun stuff. Nice thing about Lot’s wife is that you never need worry about running out of salt!
Exactly.
Very inventive. Nicely done!
All praise goes to that Higher Authority
Your play on names was a hoot! Thanks for the early morning smile.
Hoot? Owl was just punning with that… ha,ha.
That is so clever! Love it.
Draliman said it was fun and clever. Did you forget to include that it was fun, too?
Or, did you not think it was fun.
Because if you didn’t, I could make it more fun….
Randy
this is as funny as it gets. truly enjoyed reading it.
Might get a little funnier, but…
Did you hear about the time that God was talking to the Supreme Court about how He viewed some of their Supreme opinions a la His Supreme opinion?
Glad you enjoyed it. Randy
Oh, Randy, thank you, thank you, thank you for not going all serious and heavy with this! This is one of your funniest stories as far as I’m concerned. I really liked it!
janet
Me – Serious and heavy? Did you dial up the right blog here?
It’s me. Randy
Oh. Wait. Is that you Goddess?
(thanks for the compliment)
Oh, no, thank you. 😉
I find this chilling.. answering to shareholders.. that’s scary-
You’re just getting a chill now?
Dear Randy,
And they went forth from the Garden of Exxon in the Higher Powers Fury (1969, vintage model). It must’ve taken a Lot of energy to write this. And so I laughed.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Apostrophe should be in Powers…Power’s…oy oy oy
Did you own a Fury?
Actually they left on foot and had bunions. That’s why they couldn’t wait for Ford to introduce the car so they could start selling oil and stop having bunions.
Not much energy to write – but well, well, well – you know how much I like a good pun.
Randy, Adam better get moving, no matter what garden it is. Well done. 🙂 — Suzanne
I think that is excellent advice. I certainly would get moving.
Randy
How I love the wordplay, in your story, and in the comments. I can only wish to posess a smidgen of that wit… Made me laugh out loud. I do have a grammar question, but am not sure if you welcome this (learner of English here).
Everyone is full of wit, sometimes they just need to let it out a little.
Did you have a question?
Randy
Thank you. I was wondering about the mistaken in the last line.
Thank you. You have a good eye. The word should have been “mistakenly.” I have made the change to the last line. Thank you.
Randy
Great take on the prompt Randy, love your humour and the wordplay, very clever especially the thought that shareholders could be a higher authority…brilliant.
Thanks for recognizing my talents . My 3,000 page autobiography will be out soon and is retailing at $79.95, but for you, I con (I mean, can) do the first three chapters for only $19.95 if you order now
(thanks for the nice compliments)
Randy
Very clever and amusing. I’m still grinning.
grinning is good…
What can I say that hasn’t already been said? I loved it and it made me laugh. That’s a great way to end an evening.
good night
