Transgressions: The Sunday Whirl – Wordle

Sin and pleasure are eternally intertwined, and form the basis of the underworld…

Each week The Sunday Whirl invites writers to write a poem or short prose using some or all of the “wordle’s” 12 words. This week it is:

Transgressions

I, myself,
am reborn,
given asylum,
granted life,
a phoenix from these gray ashes
of the netherworld.

My transgressions
and pleasures
commingle,
as a blacksmith’s forging of
desires, peened blunt and
orange hot,
calling for the hunt,
ritualizing the erotic dance,
delighting
in the underbelly
of sexual indulgences; and then,
when spent, exhausted at
the denouement of mixed passions,
silhouetted by tapers of
recumbent enchantments,
sepia candles dimmed by wasted
revelries, drug-like satisfaction,
now, now, now is the moment of refraction.

I, myself,
am reborn, once again,
in renewed rites of passages,
rising like straw-masked African dancers,
unrecognizable at first,
then slowly growing, pounding,
restlessly grand,
achingly demure,
rhythmically sensual,
moaning and chanting.
I assert my right
to be
reborn

In the
demi
monde

  1. The intonation in this takes the reader on a lyrical journey that begins with those two-word lines, straightforward and matter-of-fact, then rises slowly but passionately to a peak with the longer lines and brilliant word choices and culminates, satiated, back down to an assertive conclusion. I completely loved the entire cadence to this and read it many, many times.

    • CC,

I got to tell you..I appreciated your analysis, your critical insight, and your recognition of cadence and movement of the poem. One of the nicest comments that a writer can hope for. Thank you.

I read all my work out loud, over and over, to get the tempo to where I want it. Along with other measures of emotion, sensory input, message, and (hopefully) ease of reader involvement.

    • I never thought of making words my bitch, but I like it.
I work the words, then they work me,and then we put it all to music, the music that we’re feeling, together.

Thanks, for your hot and sexy comments.
      Randy

      • Honestly, I didn’t know it was possible either until this poem.

You know I find wit very hot. Don’t get scared but I may be falling in love with you. Honestly nothing sexier than someone making you laugh. Oh if you’re married, compliments to the wife. Oh and let her know about the plates.
