There is a Line: The Sunday Whirl – Wordle

There is a line that we try to follow. Tell me where your line might be…

Each week The Sunday Whirl invites writers to write a poem or short prose using some or all of the “Wordle’s” 12 words. This week it is:

There is a Line

There is a line we are following.
We often see the line as straight, and often narrow.
We worry we will fall should we go left of it, or right.
We hold ourselves tight to that line,
doing what we hope is right, looking for an approving sign,
like a spell that we have cast upon ourselves.

There is little to spare beyond that line,
so we color our view in a rose-tint,
act out our roles with an unfelt flair,
and when we come to a bridge,
we often drink the cup of courage before we undertake the crossing.
Some call it faith.

It’s self-delusion.
Like hell there’s any line to walk, much less to follow.
