“Sailing Ella” died today at 92.
Unknown to the world, she was the original free woman, living alone on her sailboat, travelling the world over, keeping sailors in every port, and eking out a living, when necessary, by tending bar.
Asked about Gloria Steinman, she said, “Gloria’s a nice girl.”
