Friday Fictioneers – Rochelle Wisoff-Fields posts a pic to write a 100 word story about.
This week it’s:
Stained Glass Winter
Through these crystalled clouds,
There, on the other side,
Fuzzy figures seem to glide.
Skaters on a frozen lake,
Gloved hands braced behind their backs,
Arched and graceful silhouettes.
The pane abstracts the world,
As I scratch against the glass.
Cold crystals collect under my fingernails.
I rub my sweater sleeves back and forth across the pane.
The bumps on the glass feel funny on my arms.
I blow my breath,
An extended ha-a-a-ha,
And there, there, now I can see,
A tiny framed glimpse of a
Wee and winsome wintry scene.
Like grandpa’s snow globe
Shaken up, snow flakes swirling,
My world’s become
A pearl white paradise.
And I want to bundle up, go dashing
Out there to that frozen lake,
And swiftly skate alongside all the others.
But I wait,
Delighted, here inside,
This swirling shaken globe,
Restrained for the moment,
By an icy stained glass window pane.

Lovely.
thank you.
That was magical, Randy.
Mine is here today http://anneorchardwriter.wordpress.com/2012/11/09/friday-fictioneers-clearing/
Thanks for your own tragic magic in your story.
I really liked it – sad and stirring.

a snapshot of love
Dear Randy,
Skillfully rendered. Is it a dream within a dream? Hard to tell because it works either way. I love what you’ve done here.
Aloha,
Doug
a dream within a dream.
a snow globe within a snow globe.
I could see this person breathing on the window to clear a spot. Lovely, Randy.
thanks, Rochelle.
We all try to clear a spot, rubbing elbows, and breathing hard.
Randy
Randy, this is beautiful. I could see it (and have done it.). I love the “wee and winsome wintry scene.”
thanks.
I wondered wif I went woverboard on the w’s
like a silly wabbit
but then I liked the phrasing, so I kept it.
😉 Randy
I liked this; just as I like being inside looking out at winter scenes such as you conveyed here.
Mmm. Sitting inside beside a cold, maybe drafty, window looking out is dreamy.
Hi Randy,
A beautiful evocation of winter’s majesty. Ron
Thank you Ron.
Lovely, and I long for skating on the lake. We can do that here most every winter.
lucky you
Reminds me of when I was a kid and couldn’t go out to play in the snow (the one time we got it down in S. Louisiana) because I was in bed with bronchitis or pneumonia or something. Loved the imagery you used 🙂
Thanks. Always pleased when someone writes about a memory that pops up – though sorry to hear you were stuck inside.
My kids grew up here in south Florida – so on several winter vacations we’d drive up north in what we called our “In Search of Snow” adventures.
Marvelous! I like the snow globe image and wanting to bundle up inside. That’s what I want to do when I see this window.
Me, too!
Randy
